Lip Aesthetics

Beautiful lips understanding is almost same in every culture. Full and shapely lips are always in the factors that defines beauty. Inspiration to poets and painters. The lips are the most sensual point of our face. The shape of your lips is said to reveal about the sensual side of yours which even you might be unaware of. The Cupid's bow is a facial feature where the double curve of a the upper lip is said to resemble the bow of Cupid, the Roman god of erotic love. The peaks of the bow coincide with the philtral columns giving a prominent bow appearance to the lip.

The structures that give our lips their full, plump shape begin to wear down over time. Our lips are particularly vulnerable to showing signs of age. They have an especially thin outer layer, which gets even thinner with each passing year. Our skin’s structure gradually breaks down as we age. While this process occurs all over our body, it’s particularly noticeable on our lips. This often leads to the corners of our mouths drooping down in a permanent frown, the upper lip losing its distinctive Cupid’s Bow and our lips losing their fullness and definition. Additionally, vertical lines can often appear, even among non-smokers.

What are the different Lip Aesthetics techniques?

- lip filler injection

- lip-lift

- intraoral lip cosmetic surgery

- extraoral lip cosmetic surgery

There is 2 types of Lip augmentation

- Using your own body tissue such as a fat or dermis graft. This is long lasting and as it’s your own tissue you will have no allergy problems. It can however take more time as the tissue needs extracting.

Fat can be harvested from your body (usually your abdomen, hips or thighs) by liposuction. It is then processed and cleansed by being spun at a high speed in a centrifuge before being injected into your lips.

Dermis can be a bi-product of another operation where it would otherwise be discarded such as an abdominal reduction, breast reduction, facelift or a strip of skin can be removed from underneath your buttock crease or a scar. The outer skin is removed and the shaped dermis graft placed into your lips.

- Using a synthetic implant - the most common material used to enlarge lips is a dermal filler. There are many types of lip enhancer dermal fillers.

The most frequently used lip fillers are hyaluronic acid fillers or gels such as Restylane. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in your body so an allergic reaction is unlikely. The amount of hyaluronic acid injected can be controlled, you can have the injections gradually over a series of appointments to achieve your desired look and, they break down naturally with results lasting up to six months.

Other synthetic implants such as GORE-TEX and AlloDerm can also add volume to your lips but there is a chance that your body will reject these implants.

Upper Lip-lift (non surgical technique)

A lip lift can help improve visible signs of aging by enhancing the appearance of the upper lip. Such indicators as a long upper lip, down-turned corner of the lip, covering of the upper teeth by the upper lip or smoker’s lines may cause unwelcome effects and an older appearance.

A lip lift procedure can also help to increase the show (or that red portion of the upper lip) by decreasing the distance between the nose and the upper lip. This type of cosmetic facial enhancement does not necessarily augment the lip, but helps to elevate the upper lip area to make it appear larger.

Lip Reduction Surgery

Many men and women undergo lip augmentation to increase the size of the upper and/or lower lips. However, there are some people out there that feel that their lips are too large. Individuals that have large lips may feel self-conscious about their appearance. What many of these people do not know is that there is a cosmetic surgery procedure that is designed to bring down the size of the lips so they are in proportion with the rest of your face.

During treatment, the plastic surgeon creates a horizontal incision on the inside of the lip. The surgeon then removes excess fat and tissue from the lip before closing the incision with stitches. The lip reduction procedure can be performed on the upper and lower lip to improve the patient's appearance and balance out facial features.

Outer Corner Lip Lift

This has a near invisible outer scar located inconspicuously along the outer most corner of the red border of the upper lip. The surgery can be done under local anesthesia and involves 2 layers of stitches placed with the aid of magnification to minimize any scar. A singular outer stitch is removed in 5 days at which point makeup can be worn. Recovery from this surgery is minimal at worst.

- Laser Treatments to Stimulate Collagen Production

- Fillers and Injections to Plump Your Pout

- Combining Laser with filler. If you regularly get electrolysis treatments, you’ll be able to space out injections even further as the shots stimulate your skin to produce needed collagen.

How long does lip filler take to settle?

Please keep in mind that filler can take up to two weeks to fully settle, if you're unhappy with your results after this time, make a follow-up appointment with your practitioner. In most cases you can usually have it adjusted or dissolved altogether. Hyaluronic acid fillers are naturally broken down by the skin.

Which filler is best for lips?

Now that you know that hyaluronic acid is the best filler for your lips, you're probably wondering which hyaluronic filler to choose. Our two favorite hyaluronic fillers for lip enhancement are Juvederm and Restylane. One of the biggest differences between Juvederm and Restylane is texture.

How long are your lips swollen after fillers?

The short answer is that swollen lips are extremely common following filler injections. In most cases the swelling is at its worst after two days. Usually by the fourth day most of the swelling is gone, but it can also last for as long as two weeks in some cases.

Do lip fillers make your lips bleed?

It varies for every client, but there are often a few spots of bleeding at the injection points but usually not more than a drop of blood. Each person is different as some people might bleed more than others.

Are lip fillers safe?

Lip fillers are an aesthetic treatment so there’s always a chance that something could go wrong.  This is why it’s incredibly important to only allow a qualified, reputable professional to do it. Don’t ever be tempted to have your lip fillers at a spa or a beauty salon. A beautician hasn’t had the training that a cosmetic doctor has and they are most definitively not able to prescribe medication or treatment if something were to go wrong.

Can I wear makeup after fillers?

While it is not advisable to wear makeup during your filler injections, you can apply it soon after. You can put your makeup on four hours following treatment.

How long does it take lip injections to heal?

Swelling and bruising are normal, however, and depending on how quickly you heal, these side effects can last an average of 3-7 days. For surgical lip augmentation, it can take up to one week to recover, depending on the technique and type of procedure you had.
